Gender Equity Programme - Women in Cyberspace

 

The Department of Computer Applications of CTTE College for Women has organised a Special Talk on “Women in Cyberspace” inorder to include women safely in cyberspace as a way to impart gender equity on September 09, 2024. The resource person for the talk was our Alumnae Mrs. Sangeetha Vimal MBA., MSW, Project Manager, Nava Jeevan Trust, Tirunelveli. The talk focussed on the unique challenges in cyberspace, including online harassment, cyberstalking, and gender-based violence faced by women. Also she explained the opportunities for empowering women in cyberspace through digital literacy, online communities and Policy reforms, so that we can create a safer, more inclusive online environment for women.

 

The key point delivered in this talk was that everyone, especially women should come forward for uplifting the women community for achieving gender equity. Playful activities were conducted for the participants to inculcate the facts about women empowerment in cyberspace through networking, community development and advocacy. Finally, this talk contributed significantly to advance gender equity in cyberspace and foster a more inclusive environment for women.

Institutional Social Responsibility

 

Institutional Social Responsibility / Community Outreach Programme

International Youth Day is an awareness day designated by the United Nations that takes place on August 12, 2024. The purpose of the day is to draw attention to a given set of cultural and legal issues surrounding youth. As a part of Institutional Social Responsibility, the Department of Computer Applications in association with Nava Jeevan Trust organized an “Awareness Speech on Tobacco Control” at Bosco Academy, Madhavaram on the account of International Youth Day 2024. The speech was delivered by Mrs. Sangeetha of Nava Jeevan Trust highlighting the severe health risks associated with the use of tobacco directly or indirectly. It emphasized the importance of quitting tobacco to improve quality of life and encouraged preventive measures, particularly among youth, to combat addiction and reduce the societal impact of tobacco-related illnesses.

As a part of an outreach program on International Youth Day 2024 with the theme “Youth Digital Pathways for Sustainable Development” various competitions were conducted to the students of Bosco Academy and KRM Public School by the Department of Computer Applications in association with Nava Jeevan Trust and VR1 Publications to engage and empower young people. Activities included Speech, Connections and Think & Share were conducted to inspire leadership, creativity, and social awareness in the field of technology. The events fostered a sense of community and highlighted the potential of youth as future leaders.

EXPO on AI Tools for the School students

The Department of Computer Applications, Chevalier T. Thomas Elizabeth College for Women organized an Expo on AI Tools for School students to spread knowledge about artificial intelligence.

The Expo on AI Tools provided a platform for students to explore, collaborate, and learn in the rapidly evolving field of artificial intelligence. This expo provides a unique opportunity for school students to explore how AI is reshaping various fields, from research and education to entertainment and daily life. It showcased a diverse array of AI applications related to education, research, English vocabulary, etc., demonstrating AI's transformative potential across industries. It underscored the importance of understanding AI's capabilities and ethical challenges while highlighting its potential to shape the future of technology and society.  Sufa Matriculation Higher Sec. School, St. Mary’s Girls’ Higher Sec. School and Bentinck Higher Sec. Girls’ School have participated the AI Expo. By exploring AI tools and understanding their ethical implications, students can better prepare themselves for future opportunities in this rapidly evolving field.

AI Appreciation Day is marked on July 16 every year, and it is a day of celebration of the advancements and contributions of artificial intelligence across various domains. The Department of Computer Applications, Chevalier T. Thomas Elizabeth College for Women celebrated this day to spread knowledge about artificial intelligence by organizing events like student speeches, quiz competitions, and Expo on AI tools.

                                      

The Expo on AI Tools provided a platform for students to explore, collaborate, and learn in the rapidly evolving field of artificial intelligence. It showcased a diverse array of AI applications related to education, research, English vocabulary, etc., demonstrating AI's transformative potential across industries. The Quiz on Artificial Intelligence was conducted to test and enhance participants' knowledge about various aspects of AI, including its history, principles, applications, and implications. The student speech on artificial intelligence was a successful endeavor in promoting awareness, education, and critical discourse on AI among peers and educators. It underscored the importance of understanding AI's capabilities and ethical challenges while highlighting its potential to shape the future of technology and society.

Workshop on CANVA 

The Canva workshop, held on 04.07.2024 at BCA Lab, provided Students with a thorough understanding of Canva's tools and features, focusing on both basic and advanced design techniques. the session covered creating and customizing designs, including text, images, and graphics, as well as utilizing advanced features like animations and collaboration tools. Students gained practical skills in design layout, color theory, and branding consistency. Feedback indicated high satisfaction with the workshop’s content and delivery, with suggestions for future sessions including more advanced topics and hands-on practice. The workshop concluded with a summary of key learnings and follow-up resources to support ongoing design development.

Intellectual Property (IP) rights play a crucial role in safeguarding the creations of the human intellect. From inventions to artistic works, IP rights ensure that creators receive recognition and financial benefits for their contributions. This report provides an overview of an orientation session conducted on intellectual property rights. The orientation on intellectual property rights served as a foundational step in raising awareness and understanding among participants. By educating individuals about the importance of IP rights and providing practical insights into their protection and management, the session aimed to promote a culture of innovation and respect for intellectual creations. Moving forward, continued efforts in IP education and advocacy will be essential to foster creativity, entrepreneurship, and sustainable development. The orientation on intellectual property rights marks a significant step towards building a more informed and empowered society capable of harnessing the power of innovation for the collective benefit of humanity. Engagement with policymakers to advocate for robust IP protection frameworks that balance the interests of creators, innovators, and the public.

The primary objective of the orientation was to educate participants about the importance of intellectual property rights, their types, and ways to protect them. By enhancing awareness, the aim was to empower individuals to respect and safeguard intellectual creations, thereby fostering innovation and creativity.

Workshop on Collaborative tools for Slow learners

The department of Computer Applications organized a workshop on Collaborative tools for slow learners on 27.03.24. The Slow Learners Workshop was conducted with the aim of addressing the educational needs and challenges faced by students who require additional support due to their slower learning pace.

These tools are essential in today's digital age for enabling seamless teamwork, communication, and project management across various domains. Google Workspace is a suite of cloud-based productivity tools designed for collaboration. It includes Gmail, Google Drive, Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, and more, all accessible from any device with internet connectivity. Real-time co-editing, commenting, and sharing features make it easy for teams to collaborate on documents, spreadsheets, and presentations.

The Slow Learners Workshop served as a valuable platform to enhance their understanding, skills, and confidence. The resource persons of the day were Ms.Zareena Jasmine and Farhana Ireen III BCA, CTTE College, Chennai.

Revolite InfoTech Pvt. Ltd. is a renowned IT company specializing in cutting-edge frontend development solutions. With a focus on innovation and excellence, the company has carved a niche for itself in the industry. It is known for its diverse custom made backend solutions tailored to meet specific business requirements.

Purpose of Visit:

The industrial visit to Revolite InfoTech Pvt. Ltd. aimed to provide college students with insights into UI/UX design principles in a real-world setting, backend development in the IT industry, delivering custom made frontend solutions tailored to meet specific business requirements, in DevOPs solutions, Mobile Application Development and Website Development, etc.,

By experiencing the operations and workflows of Revolite InfoTech Pvt. Ltd. students were expected to gain a deeper understanding of the industry’s practices, challenges, and innovation systems, technologies, and their applications in real-world scenarios.

Highlights of the Visit:

Students visited the following teams and had an exposure to the following teams:

UI/UX Team:

Students engaged in interactive sessions conducted by experienced UI/UX designers. These sessions covered topics such as the importance of user research, design thinking methodologies, wire framing, prototyping, and usability testing.

Backend Team:

A comprehensive presentation on backend development, covering its significance, components, and relevance in modern software architecture, was delivered. Detailed insights were provided into the technology stack employed by Revolite InfoTech Pvt. Ltd. for backend development, including programming languages, frameworks, databases, and tools. Students actively engaged in Q&A sessions, where they clarified doubts, sought advice on career paths in backend development, and gained industry-specific insights.

Frontend Team:

Students gained insights into the company’s expertise in frontend development and its role in the IT industry. They participated in interactive sessions led by experienced frontend developers. They learned about the latest frontend technologies, tools, and frameworks used in the industry. Topics covered included HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and popular frontend libraries such as React.js and Vue.js. Students had the opportunity to witness live demonstrations of frontend development projects undertaken by Revolite. They observed the development lifecycle, from wire framing and prototyping to coding and deployment. A dedicated Q&A session was conducted, allowing students to clarify their doubts and seek advice from industry experts. They engaged in discussions on frontend development trends, career opportunities, and skill requirements in the competitive IT landscape.

DevOPs Team:

It was commenced with an engaging presentation by Revolite X’s DevOPs experts. The presentation covered various aspects of DevOps, including its principles, benefits, and implementation strategies. The students were introduced to the concept of continuous integration, continuous delivery, and automation, which are integral to the DevOPs methodology.

Software Testing Team:

Students gained practical exposure to software testing processes. Understood the importance of quality assurance in software development. Learned about the latest tools and techniques used in software testing. Students actively engaged in interactive sessions where they had the opportunity to ask questions and clarify their doubts regarding software testing concepts, processes, and industry trends.

The Department of Computer Applications, Chevalier T. Thomas Elizabeth College for Women in association with Traiso Academy has organized the Career Guidance Programme for “Stepping into IT Sector” on 12-03-2024 for the students of II BCA.

            The Resource Person of the programme was Ms. Yasmin Izrath, Admin, Traiso Academy, (Alumnae of the department) and Ms. Bharathi, Trainer, Traiso Academy explained about opportunities in Various IT Career, Think before Start, Entry Level Professional.

She also elaborated on the Sectors of Software Engineering such as

Workshop on “MERN Full Stack Development”

The Students from Department of Computer Applications attended the Workshop on “MERN Full Stack Development” organized by the Traiso Academy, Ambattur on 02/03/2024 from 10.00 am to 5.30 pm. This full day workshop focused on the following modules in hands-on mode at Traiso Academy:

       Overview of MongoDB, Express.js, React.js, and Node.js

       Benefits and applications of MERN stack

       Introduction to Node.js and Express.js

       Creating RESTful APIs

       Handling HTTP requests and responses

       Connecting React.js frontend with Node.js backend

       Consuming APIs in React.js components

       Deploying MERN stack application and

       Resume Building

 

Around 24 students from the II BCA attended the workshop and they had an opportunity to learn the basics of MERN Full Stack Development.

The Department of Computer Applications, Chevalier T. Thomas Elizabeth College for Women organized an International Conference on “The Recent Advancements in the Technological Perspectives” on February 23, 2024.

The International conference was enriched by four eminent speakers in distinguished fields of advanced computing, digital health, global finance and marketing.

The first keynote speaker was Dr. Narayanan K P, Director - Global Training, Influencer Program, Strategic Alliances, ZOHO Corporation Private Limited, Estancia IT Park, Chennai.

He emphasized on the areas of recent advancements in technology and its perspectives in the current trend.

The next speaker for the conference is Mr. Matthew Wynn, Professor in Digital Health & Safety, University of Salford, Manchester, England, United Kingdom. He shared his experience on how the digital transformation is used in the health industry and its interventions in treating acute infectious diseases.

Mr. Vijay Koneru, Vice President of Architecture, Fidelity, Texas, United States. He insisted that higher education institutions should empower women through financial services which will impact the country's economic growth.

The last speaker of the conference Dr. R. Anusha, Assistant Professor, Department of Information Technology, M.O.P. Vaishnav College for Women, Chennai explained about the role of sustainable technologies towards global development.

Around 120 participants attended the conference online and 250 students listened to the conference on the college campus.

WORKSHOP ON CYBERSAFETY

WORKSHOP ON CYBERSAFETY

Chevalier T. Thomas Elizabeth College for Women, Perambur, Chennai has organized the ‘Workshop on Cyber Safety’ for children from Grades 2 to 6 at ‘The Shri Ram Universal School’ at SPR City on February 09, 2024. Around 450 students benefited from this workshop.

 

The main motto of the workshop is to oblige the observance of CERT-In (CSK - Cyber Swachhta Kendra) - “Indian Computer Emergency Response Team”, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology ‘Cyber Swachhta Pakhwada' from 1st to 15th February 2024 to create awareness regarding cyber hygiene among citizens.

 

The College took up this initiative to create awareness among the younger generation and explained them about the addiction to gadgets & its impact on health, lack of sleep & concentration, anxiety, hopelessness, wasting time in online games, limitation in screen time and after effects of using gadgets, etc.,

 

This initiative was greatly appreciated by the teachers and parents of the school students, as the kids are much addicted to mobile phones nowadays.

 

The faculty members and students from the Department of Computer Applications of Chevalier T. Thomas Elizabeth College for Women conducted it as an activity based awareness workshop including a drama narrating the health issues faced by kids on overuse of mobile phones and a mime show depicting the online threats and cyberbullying done intentionally to attack children emotionally.










Demo day "Demonstrate the Mobile Application"

Demo Day Report

The Department of Computer Applications in association with CFSD organized a Demo day for the students of II BCA on 09/02/2023. This main motto of this event to demonstrate the mobile application developed by the Grand Finale  participants of Smart India Hackathon 2023 at P.R. Pote Patil College of Engineering & Management, Amravati, Maharashtra.

The team “Eco Envoys” developed an app for the problem statement “Proplanet person Pro” proposed by the Ministry of Environment. The students were asked to develop an application which motivates a person to upgrade himself to become eco-friendly by embedding features that inculcate environmental awareness and promotion.

From a total of 52000 innovative solutions submitted, the Ministry of Environment, Government of India shortlisted 1282 proposals for the SIH 2023 Grand Finale. The total no. of ideas shortlisted from Tamil Nadu was 443 which include 31 ideas from Chennai. Our college team “Eco Envoys” stood as one of the three Arts and Science colleges shortlisted.

This opportunity helps to showcase their process and their journey towards grand finale and its preparation to the fellow peer students.
