SMART INDIA HACKATHON 2023 PARTICIPATION

The students of our college have been achieving milestones in the recent times. It has been a significant that our students were shortlisted for the SIH GRAND FINALE which happened at various nodal centers across India. The SIH serves as a unique platform for the students across multiple institutions to showcase their ingenious ideas which are potentiated to solve real time challenges.From a total of 52000 innovative solutions submitted, the Ministry of Education of the Government of India shortlisted 1282 proposals for the SIH 2023 Grand Finale. The total no. of ideas shortlisted from Tamil Nadu was 443 which include 31 ideas from Chennai. Our college stood as one of the three Arts and Science colleges shortlisted.

Problem Statement: PRO PLANET  PERSON APP:

The students were asked to develop an application which motivates a person to upgrade himself to become eco-friendly by embedding features that inculcate environmental awareness and promotion.

Hackathon day 19^th and 20^th December

The Hackathon is a 36 hour continuous coding event with periodical breaks. The above nodal center hosted 25 teams in which there were 5 teams for each problem statement. The best team out of the five teams was provided with a cash award of 1 lakh. They were judged under the basis of execution, strategy and innovation. 

NMEICT Spoken Tutorials on “R Programming and Perl”

 III BCA 

The Students of III BCA have undergone the training on NMEICT Spoken Tutorials on “R Programming” organized at Chevalier T. Thomas Elizabeth College for Women by Mrs. NALINI K.P with course material provided by the Spoken Tutorial Project, IIT Bombay. Passing an online exam, conducted on December 19, 2023 remotely from IIT Bombay, is a pre-requisite for completing this training.

Mrs. Kalaivani C from Chevalier T. Thomas Elizabeth College for Women invigilated this examination. This training is offered by the Spoken Tutorial Project, IIT Bombay.

The students of III BCA got training through the support from the NMEICT team and attended the exam in the month of December. The details are given below:

II BCA 

The Students of II BCA have undergone the training on NMEICT Spoken Tutorials on “PERL” organized at Chevalier T. Thomas Elizabeth College for Women by Mrs. NALINI K.P with course material provided by the Spoken Tutorial Project, IIT Bombay. Passing an online exam, conducted on March 18th 2024 remotely from IIT Bombay, is a pre-requisite for completing this training.

Mrs. Kalaivani C from Chevalier T. Thomas Elizabeth College for Women invigilated this examination. This training is offered by the Spoken Tutorial Project, IIT Bombay.

The students of II BCA got training through the support from the NMEICT team and attended the exam in the month of March. The details are given below:

Workshop on Data Analytics using Rapid Miner

       Objective: To teach participants new skills or enhance existing ones. This could include technical skills in the field of data analytics

    Outcome: Participants gained a deeper understanding of the topic, subject, or domain covered in the workshop.

Career Guidance Programme on recent opportunities in IT sector

 

 Objective: Promoting personal growth, time management, communication skills, and other qualities that enhance an individual's employability and career success.

Outcome: Participants gained a clearer understanding of their interests, strengths, and values, which can help them identify and set specific career goals.

Pair and Share

 

     Objective: To succeed as a team by providing their individual contribution to the team.

   Outcome: Students were able to know and learn the concepts of Java like multithreading, I/O streams, inheritance, File handling, Applets, web programming, Graphics, etc. through power point presentation, lecture, charts, posters, role plays.

Orientation Programme on IT transformation in Accounting & Business process

 

Objective: To establishes the course's purpose, outcomes, major assignments and assessments. Reviews expectations and important policies.

 Outcome:  Acquired the knowledge and information they need to perform their roles effectively, such as understanding job responsibilities, policies, and procedures

                                        

                                                  

 

Special Lecture on “Ethics & Values

 

      To foster a culture of integrity and ethical behavior in all personal and professional endeavors, aligning actions with core values, and promoting a positive impact on individuals, organizations, and society."

PRAGYAAN-2023

 

·         Objective: To persuade the audience to adopt a certain viewpoint, accept a particular solution, or support your findings and recommendations.

·         Outcome: Facilitated the transfer of knowledge from the academic and research sphere to industry, ISRO and other relevant sectors.

Special Lecture - Normalization

 

                Mrs.K.Jane Nithya, M.Sc.,M.Phil,(Ph.D) H.O.D & Assistant Professor Department of Computer Science Ethiraj College for Women Chennai.

·         Objective: To learn about the various normalization those are available in RDBMS.

·         Outcome: Students were given knowledge about the normalization forms with real-time problems.

GOOGLE COMMEMORATION DAY - QUIZ

 

The Department of Computer Applications organized a Google Commemoration Day Quiz to students of Chennai Girls Hr. Sec. School and Smt. Durgadevi Choudhary Vivekananda Vidyalaya Senior Secondary School on 13.09.2023.

The main motto of this quiz competition is to create awareness among the students about the Google, its past and present. Around 140 participants from both the schools participated in this event. This quiz was conducted through various stages such as Entry level test of 20 questions in an open forum, Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3.

Among these students I prize was given to one team, II prize to one team and third prize to two teams. The certificate and prize books were distributed to the students by their school Head Mistress.

The students and teachers enjoyed participating the quiz. They gave good feedback about the event.

FRESHERS DAY CELEBRATION

 

EVS TRIP - BIRLA PLANITORIUM

 

The Department of Computer Applications has organized EVS Field trip to Birla Planetarium, Chennai for II BCA students on 20.07.2023. The study aimed at x-raying the imperatives of Field Trip in studying various aspects in Environmental Sciences. The study adopted survey, observation, assessment of field trip report. It specifically acquires their knowledge and better equipped in their course of studies on Environmental studies.

Industrial Visit - MGM

 

The Department of Computer Applications organized an Industrial Visit to MGM Dizzee world, Muthukkadu on 20.07.2023. Students were allowed to have entertainment in playing with rides, water pool and boating inside the amusement park with proper safety measures.

Around 51 students came for the trip accompanied by one faculty member.

BRIDGE COURSE - I BCA (2023-2024) -SCRATCH

 

Workshop on “Data Science with Python” in association with The Steps Software Solutions, Chennai

Objective: To provide some insights regarding the demand of Data science professionals.

Outcome: The students learnt about the libraries from Python that are related to Data Science. 

Special lecture for the course “Object Oriented Programming with C++”

 

Resource Person: - Mrs.S.Priya, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science, Trinity College for Women, Namakkal.

Objective: To provide knowledge, applications on inheritance in C++

Outcome: The students learnt about inheritance through practical demonstration with the help of online compilers.

Department Day on “SAFER INTERNET”

 

Objective: To find the hidden talents and knowledge of the students related to computer science

Outcome: The students participated well and won prizes in all the competitions conducted by the department.

Career Training Programme on “Software Testing on Selenium”

SMART GUESS - TECHNOLOGY FOR GLOBAL WELFARE

·         Objective: To make the students guess the technical terms with the help of images projected to them.

·         Outcome: The students were able to think creatively on connecting the images related to technology.

·         Objective: to create awareness on the current web application frameworks to students which will be very much useful in pursuing their career in development.
